Science on the Wall (Grades 1 to 6 and Special Education)
The Idea
Students work individually, in pairs or in small groups to build a display on a subject related to science.
Students are encouraged to use their creativity to do a display on something related to Science.
Wall Displays can vary from a simple collage of the four food groups, to an investigation of endangered species – complete with a world map, and reference cards about each species tied to each location.

Special Education category geared to accommodate self-contained classes. In this case, the entire class, with help from Educational Assistants as necessary, may contribute to the production of a single poster which will be judged against other similar classes. Laying out your Science on the Wall Display
These wall displays consist of a single poster (maximum 65cm x 80cm Bristol board)

It is not a requirement that the displays be completely flat. A certain amount of relief can create an appealing effect. Student creativity is encouraged – the possibilities are endless!

Students’ can design a blueprint of their poster before using the Bristol board. The display should be well thought out and have all the information needed.
​
Avoid excessive pictures, there should be room for their written work.
​
Encouragement to research and rewrite information in their own words is essential.
​
Check work for grammar and spelling mistakes.
​
Emphasize NEATNESS which provides an opportunity for students to practice their organization, measurement, and artistic skills.
​
Typing work on the computer is a good idea.
​
Make a catchy title, add lots of colour, glue on real feathers, leaves etc.
Delivery of Science on the Wall
SOTW students are not required to attend the Regional Fair in person, but are welcome to do so provided that they are accompanied and supervised by an adult.
It is the responsibility of parents/teachers to ensure that posters are brought to, and picked up from, the fair. Parents and students may attend the award ceremony as winning posters in each SOTW category (Grades 1 to 2, Grades 3 to 4, Grades 5 to 6 and Special Education) will be acknowledged.
All students will receive a participation certificate.

NOTE: There is a limit of 10 posters per school. To select the top Wall Displays from your school you can run an in-school Wall Display Competition to suit your school’s philosophy and needs.
